Al- Fatihah

SEREMBAN: Bagan Pinang assemblyman Azman Mohammad Noor (pic) died at the Seremban Specialist Centre near here at 2.30pm Friday due to blood septicimea.
The first-term Barisan Nasional assemblyman was 55.

(Septicemia is the presence of bacteria in the blood and is often associated with severe heart disease. Septicemia can begin with spiking fevers, chills, rapid breathing and a rapid heart rate).
A hospital spokesman said it could not be ascertained yet if the blood septicimea had caused his other body organs to fail.

“That can happen but we cannot establish it at this point in time,” he said.
Azman, who underwent a heart by-pass at the Ampang Putri Specialist Hospital in May, had often been complaining of being unwell in recent days.

His wife Normah Zainal Abidin 49, said his condition got worse in the last two days.
“He began feeling unwell after the recent state assembly sitting. His condition did not improve and he was always feeling lethargic,” she said.

The state assembly sitting was held on Aug 17 and 18.
Normah said although she had advised her husband to seek medical treatment, he always brushed it off.

“He insisted on keeping his appointments. He said that he had plenty of work to do and could not afford to cancel meetings or to meet his constituents,” she said.

Normah said Azman only agreed to be taken to hospital when his condition deteriorated at 3.30am on Friday.

”He was having very high fever and I insisted that he be taken to hospital. Only after much persuasion did he give in,” she said, adding that she rushed him to the specialist centre from their home in Rasah Kemayan.

Normah said Azman was still conscious when wheeled into the emergency section at the specialist centre. However, he fell unconscious when he was being taken to the intensive care unit.

Their children Mohd Khusairi, 23, Hasrol Asfani, 22, Norsyazila 19, Nor Syafiqah 16 and Nor Syafitra, 13 were with her.

Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan described Azman’s death as a great loss to Umno.

“He was a very good friend. He has been in the party for a long time and served very well. We in Umno and Barisan will miss him dearly,” he said.

Former Bagan Pinang assemblyman Mohd Faizal Ramli said Azman, who is also Teluk Kemang Umno division vice head, was well liked by his constituents.

“He was a very humble person. In fact, he rose from the bottom and only last year became a wakil rakyat (elected representative),” he said.

Azman was later buried at the Muslim burial ground at Kampung Bagan Pinang in Port Dickson.
In the 2008 general election , Azman defeated PAS’ Ramli Ismail with a majority of 2,333 votes. He polled 6,430 votes against Ramli’s 4,097.

Bagan Pinang and Linggi are the only two state seats in the Teluk Kemang parliamentary constituency which is under Barisan. Three others -- Port Dickson, Chuah and Lukut -- are controlled by the Opposition.

With his seat now vacant, the nation will have to brace itself for the ninth by-election since the 12th general election in March last year.
